Metro, the world’s largest newspaper, announce the opening of the 10 year anniversary version of the largest Photo Contest in the world: Metro Photo Challenge.
Metro International, the global newspaper group, is thrilled to announce the launch of the great 10 year anniversary edition of Metro Photo Challenge, the world’s largest photo competition. The annual contest has become an exciting event for professional and amateur photographers alike; Metro invites its 18 million daily readers in over 100 cities in 22 countries to submit their photos for free, and win global fame and great prizes.
Metro Photo Challenge 2014 runs from 23th September 2014 and the winners will be announced on the 5th of December 2014. The competition concept is built on the categories: “My City’s Magic”, “Urban Escape” and UN partnered category “My Green City”. Participants can submit their photos in one or all of the categories on www.metrophotochallenge.com. In 2013 over 120,000 photos were submitted; Metro expects to best that figure in 2014 with an improved web platform and increased visibility. Metro World News will cover Metro Photo Challenge with interviews with the global jury and participants in Metro newspapers worldwide.

Metro Photo Challenge 2014 counts this year with UN as global partner in order to join forces to promote actions against Climate Change. That’s why Metro Photo Challenge start the 23RD of September, same day that the United Nations Climate Summit 2014 will take place in New York
“To quote UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, ‘Climate change is not a far-off problem, it is happening now, with real consequences,’” said Afsane Bassir-Pour, Director of the UN Regional Information Centre in Brussels, “but, adds the Secretary-General, ‘change is in the air.’ And METRO International’s decision to dedicate the 10th Metro Photo Challenge to the climate is another sign of this change,” said Ms. Bassir-Pour.
The global winners in each of the three global categories will enjoy a 4-day photo expedition to New York. The prize includes a return flight to New York, accommodation and incredible activities in one of the most photogenic city in the world. The photos taken during the trip could be published in Metro newspapers, reaching more than 18 million readers worldwide.
METRO PHOTO CHALLENGE
Metro Photo Challenge was introduced ten years ago in Sweden and ran globally for the first time in 2007. The contest has become a truly credible and important event for professional and amateur photographers alike. In 2013, 40,000 photographers submitted more than 120,000 images, making Metro Photo Challenge the world’s largest photography competition.
THE UNITED NATIONS – CLIMATE SUMMIT 2014
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is hosting the Climate Summit to engage leaders and advance climate action and ambition. The Summit will serve as a public platform for leaders at the highest level –UN Member States, as well as finance, business, civil society and local leaders from public and private sectors – to catalyze ambitious action on the ground to reduce emissions and strengthen climate resilience and mobilize political will for an ambitious global legal agreement by 2015 that limits the world to a less than 2-degree Celsius rise in global temperature.
