7 February 2012
Metro International S.A. (“Metro”), the international newspaper group, is proud to announce that its February 7th edition is guest edited by one of the fashion world’s most legendary icons, Karl Lagerfeld. The designer had editorial oversight of Metro’s editions globally, choosing the headlines, illustrating the news and working closely with editors on every detail.
As Global Guest Editor, Lagerfeld spent the day in the Metro Paris newsroom, where he worked on the exclusive illustrations and commented on the day’s news for the editions around the world.
“To me, a sketch is like a newspaper. You do it – and the next day you’re on to a new one,” he told editors.
The edition, which was titled “The World According to Karl,” features a Q&A with Lagerfeld himself in addition to interviews with a range of designers and performers connected to him, including Florence Welch, Haider Ackermann, Carine Roitfeld, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Azealia Banks and actor Edgar Ramirez.
The special issue coincides with the beta launch of Metro’s new style site, Modmods.com. The site, available for submissions from today, will merge high-quality user generated street style and personal style content with relevant editorial from Metro’s fashion team, and for its first week, will feature exclusive Lagerfeld content.
An app/HTML 5 version of the issue will also be available on iTunes and on local web portals. The Karl Lagerfeld edition of Metro kicks off the newspaper’s month-long coverage of the global autumn/winter ’12 ready-to-wear shows.
